The JMS School of Singing was established in the spring 2024. The school functions out of the First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury, MA and my home studio in Worcester, MA. With myself as the Master Teacher, the JMS Singing School is a “one-stop shop” for singers looking to learn a solid, healthy, and reliable vocal technique in addition to various performance styles (such as jazz, opera, musical theater, classical). This, of course, with the guidance of vocal coaches, language and diction experts, dramatic coaches, and Masterclass instructors.
I have spent 25+ years teaching private voice to talented students with a strong work ethic and I love the fact that I’ve been able to reach more by establishing this unique singing school.
There is always a need for high-quality vocal training. My dream, to create an organization where I can hire notable teachers and coaches through my personal connections in the music industry, and housing them under one roof, has been realized. Singing isn’t just creating sound and learning songs to perform in public. Singing is the whole person, the entire instrument, body and mind, consistently learning and implementing technical concepts to bring a song, a piece, or a solo work to life. I know of no better way to ensure this than to have the best possible education to support these efforts.
Examples of techniques taught at the JMS School of Singing:
vocal technique & sound production, breathing techniques, song interpretation and character studies, diction and phonetics, musical skills, audition techniques, singing through yoga, language skills, repertoire styles, performance techniques, song recordings to accompany applications, & resumé writing.
Masterclasses will be offered 2 times per year (1 per semester). It is mandatory for students enrolled in private lessons to attend the 2 Masterclass offered each year during each semester (September – December & January – June).
Performances will be held twice per year (January & June) with a possible third performance opportunity if scheduling allows.
