At the JMS School of Singing, students receive exceptional vocal training from highly qualified instructors dedicated to cultivating confident, skilled, and well-rounded performers. We offer a structured, supportive environment that encourages discipline, artistic growth, and a deep appreciation for music.
Established in July 2024, the school operates out of the First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury, MA, and a private studio in Worcester, MA. Led by the Master Teacher, soprano Jane Shivick, our comprehensive program emphasizes healthy, sustainable vocal technique and offers instruction across a range of styles—including classical, musical theater, jazz, and opera. Students also receive specialized coaching in diction, dramatic interpretation, and performance practice, ensuring a well-rounded and professional music education.
There is an ongoing need for exceptional vocal training. My goal—to create a school that brings together accomplished teachers and coaches from my professional network in the music industry—has now been fulfilled.
At JMS, we view singing as a whole-body, whole-mind discipline. It’s not just about producing sound or performing songs; it’s about developing the complete artist. Through consistent, thoughtful application of technique and expression, students learn to bring music to life with depth and authenticity. Providing the highest level of education to support that growth is our core mission.
With over 25 years of experience in private voice instruction, I founded JMS to unite expert educators and resources in one place. Our holistic approach supports the development of the complete singer—physically, vocally, and artistically.
Core areas of study include:
Vocal technique and breath control
Song interpretation and character study
Diction, language, and phonetics
Musicianship and audition preparation
Yoga-informed vocal work
Repertoire and performance development
Mindfulness
Application recordings and resumé guidance
Private students are required to attend two Masterclasses annually (one per semester). Performances are held in January and June, with a potential third opportunity depending on the calendar.
